Participating in IHI:
How to Get Involved
The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) is a public-private partnership that brings together industry leaders, research institutions, healthcare providers, and public stakeholders to drive transformative health research and innovation. COCIR actively supports its members in participating in IHI projects, ensuring they are well-prepared and strategically positioned to maximize their impact and success. Participating in IHI offers unique opportunities for collaborative research, access to significant funding, and the ability to shape the future of healthcare. This section outlines the essential steps and guidelines for participating in IHI, from preparing a proposal to successful project execution.
01
Getting Started with IHI
Getting Started
- Single-Stage Calls – Networking and partner discussions can begin as soon as draft topics are available.
- Two-Stage Calls – Public participants can prepare once drafts are released, but pre-identified industry consortia must wait until after the first evaluation to engage.
Identifying Private Partners
COCIR and four other European industry associations are IHI’s founding members. They represent the following sectors:
- COCIR – Medical imaging, radiotherapy, health ICT, and electromedical industries.
- EFPIA – Pharmaceutical industry.
- EuropaBio – Biotechnology industry.
- MedTech Europe – Medical technology, diagnostics, and digital health.
- Vaccines Europe – Vaccine industry.
Potential partners can be identified through:
- Networking on the IHI matchmaking platform – Facilitates connections between public and private stakeholders.
- Participating in IHI-organized brokerage events – Provides opportunities to discuss call topics, build consortia, and pitch project proposals.
Connecting with Industry
- Single-Stage Calls – Networking can begin as soon as draft topics are published.
- Two-Stage Calls – Public participants prepare short proposals first. Only after evaluation do they collaborate with pre-identified industry consortia.
Funding Eligibility
- Type of call – Single-stage or two-stage.
- Geographic location – EU and associated countries are eligible.
- Membership status – Private partners must be members of COCIR or other affiliated industry associations.
- Contribution type – Financial contributions or in-kind contributions to additional activities (IKAA).
Budgeting for IHI Projects
- Single-Stage Calls – Detailed budgets are submitted with full proposals.
- Two-Stage Calls – A preliminary budget is submitted during the first stage, with a full budget required in the second stage.
02
After Proposal Submission
What Happens After Evaluation
- Prepare grant agreements – Outlining funding, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
- Develop consortium agreements – Detailing partner roles and responsibilities.
- Complete financial and ethics assessments – Ensuring compliance with EU regulations.
IHI Reporting Requirements
IHI projects require:
- Continuous and periodic reporting – Covering technical progress and financial contributions.
- Final reporting and audits – Including financial certification to ensure compliance with IHI’s co-funding model.
Communicating About Your Project
Effective communication enhances visibility and raises awareness of IHI projects.
- Public-facing communication can only begin after signing the grant agreement.
- Acknowledgment of IHI support is mandatory in all communication materials.
